Spice Price in Peru (FOB) - 2022
The average spice export price stood at $2,069 per ton in 2022, reducing by -10.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $2,589 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($3,285 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($541 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Spice Price in Peru (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $6,067 per ton in 2022, picking up by 24% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spice import price increased by +30.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,241 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($11,679 per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($1,744 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Exports in Peru
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of spices, when their volume decreased by -21% to 100K tons. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +40.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 127K tons, and then fell significantly in the following year.
In value terms, spice exports declined sharply to $207M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 35%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $294M, and then plummeted in the following year.

Spice Imports in Peru
In 2022, supplies from abroad of spices decreased by -5.4% to 7K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spice imports soared to $43M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -11.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 51%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $48M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
