Spice Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $1,676 per ton in 2022, reducing by -9.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 49%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $4,710 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($3,974 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,288 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+13.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice export price amounted to $1,090 per ton, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,207 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($1,895 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ghana ($115 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Spice Imports in Nigeria
Spice imports into Nigeria surged to 26K tons in 2022, growing by 89% against 2021. Overall, imports showed a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
