Meat Price in India (FOB) - 2022
The average meat export price stood at $2,819 per ton in 2022, declining by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,268 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($3,131 per ton) and Jordan ($3,054 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($2,091 per ton) and Iraq ($2,353 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat Price in India (CIF) - 2022
The average meat import price stood at $3,772 per ton in 2022, increasing by 20% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $4,193 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($11,671 per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($1,482 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Meat Exports in India
In 2022, the amount of meat exported from India reached 1.1M tons, increasing by 1.9% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, recorded a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 9.1%.
In value terms, meat exports contracted to $3B in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 7.7% against the previous year.

Meat Imports in India
In 2022, approx. 1.8K tons of meat were imported into India; growing by 4% on the year before. In general, imports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year.
In value terms, meat imports surged to $6.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%.
