Production By Country

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +61.0% against 2012 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1M tons, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In value terms, wheat starch imports surged to $652M in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted prominent growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports By Country

In 2022, Germany (218K tons), distantly followed by Poland (128K tons), France (101K tons), the Netherlands (75K tons), the UK (64K tons) and Finland (50K tons) represented the largest importers of wheat starch, together comprising 64% of total imports. The following importers - Italy (42K tons), Belgium (37K tons), the United States (32K tons), South Korea (20K tons), Malaysia (17K tons) and Taiwan (Chinese) (15K tons) - together made up 16% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +67.3%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
