The average export price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows stood at $3,555 per ton in December 2023, shrinking by -3.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.7% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $4,635 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($4,843 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($3,063 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows stood at $3,307 per ton in December 2023, waning by -4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 59% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,223 per ton. From May 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($3,520 per ton), while the price for China ($3,111 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exports of Aluminium; Alloys, Bars, Rods and Profiles, Other than Hollow in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 51K tons of aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows were exported from Malaysia; which is down by -4.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 75% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 53K tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, exports of aluminium; alloys, bars, rods and profiles, other than hollows rose sharply to $223M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 107% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
