Preserved Mackerel Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average preserved mackerel import price amounted to $4,174 per ton, with a decrease of -23.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 72% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $6,172 per ton. From July 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($12,141 per ton), while the price for China ($1,491 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Mackerel Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2022
The average preserved mackerel export price stood at $5,209 per ton in 2022, declining by -6.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 25%. The export price peaked at $6,606 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Montenegro ($5,470 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina stood at $4,942 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (-2.6%).
Preserved Mackerel Imports in Serbia
In 2022, approx. 561 tons of mackerel (prepared or preserved) were imported into Serbia; growing by 16% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, preserved mackerel imports soared to $2.5M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Preserved Mackerel Exports in Serbia
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of mackerel (prepared or preserved) increased by 13% to 13 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant contraction.
In value terms, preserved mackerel exports expanded rapidly to $66K in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous shrinkage.
