In 2022, the average carob import price amounted to $803 per ton, with an increase of 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 83% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,800 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The average carob export price stood at $1,363 per ton in 2022, increasing by 7.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,601 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Mexico ($1,521 per ton) and Colombia ($1,256 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,256 per ton) and Canada ($1,256 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+0.1%).
Carob Imports in the United States
In 2022, overseas purchases of carob decreased by -9.5% to 1.5K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 9.4%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.7K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, carob imports reduced to $1.2M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
