In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in the Europe fresh whole chicken market, when its value increased by 16% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. Exports in Europe

In 2021, overseas shipments of fresh or chilled whole chickens increased by 2% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tons), Belarus (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), France (X tons) and Austria (X tons) represented roughly 78% of total exports in 2021. Portugal (X tons), Russia (X tons), Bulgaria (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +86.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and France ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 35% of total exports. Belgium, Austria, Belarus, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Russia, Greece and Ireland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 58%.

Among the main exporting countries, Russia, with a CAGR of +76.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of fresh or chilled whole chickens, when their volume increased by 9.7% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh whole chicken imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, the UK (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Russia (X tons) was the key importer of fresh or chilled whole chickens in Europe, mixing up 55% of total import. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons), together creating an 11% share of total imports.
