Benin, Ghana, Cameroon, Egypt, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Morocco, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mali lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Burkina Faso (with a CAGR of X%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
The average spice yield dropped to X tons per ha in 2022, approximately equating 2021. Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw modest growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, spice exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Madagascar (X tons) and Nigeria (X tons) were the major exporters of spices in 2022, recording approx. X% and X% of total exports, respectively. South Africa (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Tunisia (X%), Egypt (X%) and Morocco (X%). Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Kenya (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons) and Comoros (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In value terms, Madagascar ($X) remains the largest spice supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Madagascar totaled X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (X% per year) and Nigeria (X% per year).

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, waning by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($X per ton), while Cote d'Ivoire ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In terms of the main importing countries, Rwanda, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
