Wrapping Papers Price in Canada (CIF) - 2023
The average wrapping papers import price stood at $1,512 per ton in June 2023, rising by 2.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 4.4% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,583 per ton. From October 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($3,374 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,411 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Wrapping Papers Price in Canada (FOB) - 2023
The average wrapping papers export price stood at $1,510 per ton in June 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 7.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,559 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,673 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($585 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Wrapping Papers Imports in Canada
In 2022, supplies from abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard decreased by -0.5% to 402K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports, however, recorded a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 4.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 408K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wrapping papers imports skyrocketed to $576M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Wrapping Papers Exports in Canada
For the third consecutive year, Canada recorded decline in overseas shipments of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard, which decreased by -1.6% to 334K tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded a perceptible contraction. The smallest decline of less than 0.1% was in 2020.
In value terms, wrapping papers exports skyrocketed to $497M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
