Wine Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average wine import price amounted to $5.4 per litre, rising by 7.8% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. The import price peaked in September 2023.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($10.3 per litre), while the price for South Africa ($2.0 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wine Price in China (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average wine export price amounted to $11.1 per litre, picking up by 162% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded mild growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 224% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $31.3 per litre in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($80.6 per litre), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($2.4 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wine Imports in China

In 2022, wine imports into China declined dramatically to 333M litres, dropping by -17.2% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 1.6%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 603M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wine imports fell rapidly to $1.4B in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -7.4% was in 2021. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $2.4B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Wine Exports in China

In 2022, wine exports from China reduced remarkably to 3M litres, falling by -30.7% on the year before. In general, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 174% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 4.3M litres, and then declined markedly in the following year.

In value terms, wine exports fell remarkably to $41M in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 215%. The exports peaked at $83M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
