Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023
The average unmanufactured tobacco import price stood at $5,594 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -5.8% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $5,940 per ton in June 2023, and then declined in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,771 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($4,156 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bangladesh (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average unmanufactured tobacco export price amounted to $4,524 per ton, falling by -11.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 35%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,675 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,530 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,596 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Unmanufactured Tobacco Imports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 90K tons of tobacco (unmanufactured) were imported into Turkey; with an increase of 21% against 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco imports expanded sharply to $382M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced contraction.

Unmanufactured Tobacco Exports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 58K tons of tobacco (unmanufactured) were exported from Turkey; picking up by 13% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, unmanufactured tobacco exports stood at $261M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1.9%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $268M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
