The average sulphites; thiosulphates export price stood at $394 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -22.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $674 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Egypt ($457 per ton) and Portugal ($448 per ton), while the average price for exports to Senegal ($321 per ton) and Brazil ($334 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guinea (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average sulphites; thiosulphates import price stood at $809 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average import price increased by 25% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $1,017 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,099 per ton), while the price for France ($356 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 50K tons of sulphites; thiosulphateses were exported from Turkey; flattening at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 51K tons, leveling off in the following year.

In value terms, sulphites; thiosulphates exports skyrocketed to $34M in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
