Sparkling Wine Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average sparkling wine import price amounted to $8.8 per litre, with an increase of 3.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a slight expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 107% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $23.5 per litre. From November 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($26.3 per litre), while the price for Spain ($2.9 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Sparkling Wine Price in China (FOB) - 2022

The average sparkling wine export price stood at $23 per litre in 2022, rising by 92% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed perceptible growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($21 per litre), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($1.6 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Democratic People's Republic of Korea (+17.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Sparkling Wine Imports in China

Sparkling wine imports into China fell remarkably to 8.2M litres in 2022, reducing by -26.2% against 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 14M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine imports contracted notably to $87M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +20.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $113M, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

Sparkling Wine Exports in China

In 2022, exports of sparkling wine from China reduced to 111K litres, waning by -8.1% against 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 35%. The exports peaked at 196K litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, sparkling wine exports surged to $2.6M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
