Soybean Oil Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
The average soybean oil export price stood at $1,119 per ton in July 2023, stabilizing at the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 20% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,587 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Trinidad and Tobago ($1,234 per ton) and Belgium ($1,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($971 per ton) and Ireland ($1,028 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mozambique (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Soybean Oil Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average soybean oil import price amounted to $1,312 per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 22% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,712 per ton. From February 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,348 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($1,021 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Soybean Oil Exports in the Netherlands
In 2022, shipments abroad of soybean oil decreased by -16.3% to 489K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 610K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, soybean oil exports totaled $727M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +70.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 42% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
