Refined Palm Oil Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2021

In December 2021, the average refined palm oil import price amounted to $654 per ton, waning by -4.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a measured expansion from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, refined palm oil import price increased by +61.7% against September 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 115% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $686 per ton in November 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($1,085 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($176 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Refined Palm Oil Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022

The average refined palm oil export price stood at $1,867 per ton in 2022, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, refined palm oil export price increased by +129.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 79%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($4,367 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at $993 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Zambia (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Refined Palm Oil Imports in Tanzania

In 2022, approx. 156K tons of refined palm oil were imported into Tanzania; dropping by -47.1% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports saw a dramatic downturn. The smallest decline of -17.7% was in 2020.

In value terms, refined palm oil imports declined dramatically to $94M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a significant contraction. The smallest decline of -2.5% was in 2020.

Refined Palm Oil Exports in Tanzania

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of refined palm oil, when their volume decreased by -81.1% to 255 tons. Overall, exports showed a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 1.3K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.

In value terms, refined palm oil exports declined significantly to $476K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 201%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.1M, and then declined significantly in the following year.
