Cow Peas Production in China - 2022
In 2022, production of cow peas (dry) increased by 1.1% to 15K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, production, however, saw a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 1.1%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak volume at 16K tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure. Cow peas output in China indicated a slight descent, which was largely conditioned by a slight downturn of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction in yield figures.
In value terms, cow peas production fell to $11M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the production volume increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $16M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of cow peas (dry) production in China stood at 15K ha, flattening at 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of 15K ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the cow peas harvested area remained at a lower figure.
