The average import price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses stood at $1.4 per litre in November 2023, which is down by -6.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1.5 per litre in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($2.1 per litre), while the price for Italy ($986 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses amounted to $2.3 per litre, which is down by -4.1% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2.4 per litre in 2021, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Estonia ($2.6 per litre) and Norway ($2.4 per litre), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1.9 per litre) and Sweden ($2.1 per litre) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Norway (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses was finally on the rise to reach 83M litres after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild slump. Imports peaked at 87M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses totaled $123M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild setback. Imports peaked at $127M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The exports peaked at 22M litres in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, exports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses shrank to $49M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +41.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $54M in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
