In August 2023, the average import price for vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,335 per ton, surging by 15% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from November 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.4% over the last nine-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, import price for vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds increased by +15.2% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 24% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,421 per ton. From May 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,837 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,005 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 70% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($2,129 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ukraine ($914 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
