In August 2023, the average import price for vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,260 per ton, which is down by -7.2% against the previous month. Over the last nine-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,613 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($5,609 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,123 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+21.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average export price for vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds amounted to $965 per ton, dropping by -14.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,910 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, Belgium recorded decline in supplies from abroad of vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds, which decreased by -9.1% to 6.7K tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a perceptible downturn. The smallest decline of -0.9% was in 2020.

In value terms, imports of vegetables; celery (other than celeriac), fresh or chilleds shrank to $6.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The smallest decline of -13.9% was in 2020.
