The average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $1,584 per ton in November 2023, reducing by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,815 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($2,178 per ton), while the price for Serbia ($888 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Serbia (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In November 2023, the average export price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid amounted to $1,566 per ton, surging by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2023 an increase of 52% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,828 per ton. From October 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,727 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kosovo ($919 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bosnia and Herzegovina (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Tomatoes; Prepared or Preserved Otherwise than by Vinegar or Acetic Acid in Slovenia

For the fourth consecutive year, Slovenia recorded growth in overseas purchases of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid, which increased by 24% to 11K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid expanded significantly to $13M in 2022. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
