In December 2022, the average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid amounted to $1,281 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,290 per ton in August 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to December 2022.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Bahrain ($1,295 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($1,295 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,136 per ton) and Italy ($1,218 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 7.8% against the previous year.
