In January 2024, the average import price for silicon; containing by weight less than 99.99% of silica amounted to $1,936 per ton, approximately reflecting the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2023 an increase of 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,814 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was China ($2,049 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,838 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (-2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for silicon; containing by weight less than 99.99% of silica amounted to $3,833 per ton, rising by 65% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for silicon; containing by weight less than 99.99% of silica increased by +120.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Tunisia ($4,786 per ton) and Iran ($4,131 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($3,411 per ton) and Azerbaijan ($3,505 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iran (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
