Price for Seafood Meals and Pellets in Canada (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average seafood meals and pellets import price amounted to $2,121 per ton, picking up by 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2,180 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Denmark ($2,459 per ton) and Norway ($2,408 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,917 per ton) and Mexico ($1,973 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Seafood Meals and Pellets in Canada (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average seafood meals and pellets export price amounted to $1,013 per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,757 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,014 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($494 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Seafood Meals and Pellets in Canada
In 2022, seafood meals and pellets imports into Canada dropped to 54K tons, with a decrease of -7.2% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 4%.
