The average import price for poly(lactic acid); in primary formses stood at $3,369 per ton in June 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 6.5% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,446 per ton in August 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($4,617 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2,790 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, overseas purchases of poly(lactic acid); in primary formses decreased by -18.1% to 21K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 28K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, poly(lactic acid); in primary forms imports declined to $73M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $82M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
