The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $324 per ton in 2022, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +55.1% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $348 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Overall, export price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +63.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 46% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,069 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($979 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($509 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+28.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
