In 2022, the average nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price amounted to $23,763 per ton, surging by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed import price increased by +122.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($27,781 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($19,555 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of growth, overseas purchases of nickel; unwrought, not alloyeds decreased by -22.1% to 12 tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 29%.
In value terms, nickel; unwrought, not alloyed imports declined to $278K in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $325K, and then fell in the following year.
