In November 2023, the average import price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes amounted to $752 per ton, surging by 2.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 an increase of 2.8% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $785 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to November 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($943 per ton), while the price for Austria ($611 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In November 2023, the average export price for liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes amounted to $796 per ton, which is down by -3.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 41% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $959 per ton. From March 2023 to November 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($835 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands amounted to $773 per ton.

From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+0.5%).

In 2022, overseas purchases of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes decreased by -17% to 519K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 8% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 654K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of liquefied ethylene, propylene, butylene and butadienes expanded sharply to $459M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 64%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $77M, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
