In August 2023, the average export price for iron or non-alloy steel; bars and rods, hot-rolled, in irregularly wound coilses amounted to $744 per ton, which is down by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $864 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Argentina ($939 per ton) and the United States ($917 per ton), while the average price for exports to Colombia ($682 per ton) and the Dominican Republic ($688 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

From April 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,151 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($680 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From February 2023 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
