Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Poland (CIF) - 2023
The average iron and steel wire import price stood at $1,246 per ton in September 2023, reducing by -4.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 9% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,513 per ton. From December 2022 to September 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from China ($928 per ton) and Turkey ($914 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($803 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($822 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Price for Iron and Steel Wire in Poland (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average iron and steel wire export price amounted to $1,608 per ton, growing by 6.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,807 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($2,266 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,483 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Iron and Steel Wire in Poland
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of iron and steel wire decreased by -10.6% to 501K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 560K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, iron and steel wire imports expanded significantly to $743M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
