In 2022, the average import price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses amounted to $85,820 per ton, with an increase of 9.3% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses decreased by -13.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 64% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $99,021 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($202,652 per ton), while the price for Myanmar ($15,431 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+14.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses stood at $82,513 per ton in November 2023, reducing by -2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 31% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $106K per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($103K per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($31,670 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Fish; Edible Offal, Fish Heads, Tails and Maws in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, approx. 3.2K tons of fish; edible offal, fish heads, tails and mawses were imported into Hong Kong SAR; shrinking by -5.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 5.7%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.4K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
