The average export price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $893 per ton in December 2023, rising by 31% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 59% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $945 per ton in September 2023; however, from October 2023 to December 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($1,792 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($366 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average import price for ferrous waste and scrap; of stainless steels stood at $1,818 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 23% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,070 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
