In 2022, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $170,138 per ton, increasing by 2,428% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a significant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($201,732 per ton), while the average price for exports to Rwanda totaled $9,640 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+9.3%).

In 2022, the average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $7,444 per ton, surging by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $13,777 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($30,538 per ton), while the price for China ($2,374 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+24.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Uganda

In 2022, shipments abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds decreased by -89.3% to 152 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a significant contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 93%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.5 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds surged to $26K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
