Price for Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Chile (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds amounted to $3,351 per ton, surging by 1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 7.6%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,034 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($4,305 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($2,535 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds stood at $5,038 per ton in December 2023, growing by 3.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.6% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,788 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($12,374 per ton), while the price for China ($4,268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Chile

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds decreased by -6.2% to 96K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds fell slightly to $321M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 10% against the previous year.

Imports of Crustaceans, Molluscs and Other Aquatic Invertebrates, Prepared or Preserved in Chile

In 2022, overseas purchases of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds decreased by -17.2% to 7.8K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.4K tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, imports of crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates, prepared or preserveds dropped to $52M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 83%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $58M, and then dropped in the following year.
