In June 2023, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted import price amounted to $4,189 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 8.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in June 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($4,266 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($3,973 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cote d'Ivoire (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average cocoa; paste, not defatted export price amounted to $4,345 per ton, with an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $4,925 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Romania ($4,869 per ton) and Italy ($4,509 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($3,895 per ton) and Bulgaria ($3,918 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Cocoa; Paste, Not Defatted in Greece
Cocoa; paste, not defatted imports into Greece fell markedly to 3.1K tons in 2022, waning by -22.4% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.9K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted imports contracted remarkably to $11M in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 22% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $14M, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

For the third consecutive year, Greece recorded decline in shipments abroad of cocoa; paste, not defatteds, which decreased by -84.7% to 17 tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The smallest decline of -24.3% was in 2020.
In value terms, cocoa; paste, not defatted exports reduced rapidly to $75K in 2022. In general, exports faced a precipitous setback. The smallest decline of -14.8% was in 2021.
