In December 2023, the average import price for cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin amounted to $837 per ton, picking up by 6.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $900 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,514 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($523 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin stood at $742 per ton in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $743 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($852 per ton), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Cereal Flours; Other than of Wheat or Meslin in Chile

For the fourth year in a row, Chile recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin, which increased by 9.8% to 20K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin rose rapidly to $18M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
