Price for Cereal Flours; Other than of Wheat or Meslin in Chile (CIF) - 2023

In December 2023, the average import price for cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin amounted to $837 per ton, picking up by 6.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $900 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to December 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,514 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($523 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for cereal flours; other than of wheat or meslin stood at $742 per ton in 2022, growing by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $743 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($852 per ton), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
