The average export price for briquettes, ovoids and similar solid fuels; manufactured from coals stood at $698 per ton in June 2023, surging by 2.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 92% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $721 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Japan.

From January 2023 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Japan amounted to +0.1% per month.

Overall, the import price continues to indicate buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 24,467% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $17,975 per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Zambia ($18,750 per ton), while the price for Indonesia amounted to $9,222 per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+14.2%).
