Price for Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Portugal (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $757 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -23.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,042 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($1,709 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($611 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cabo Verde (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes stood at $1,153 per ton in June 2023, growing by 8.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 18% m-o-m. The import price peaked in June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,979 per ton), while the price for Poland ($876 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Portugal
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of apples, pears and quinces; freshes, when their volume increased by 43% to 196K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, apples, pears and quinces; fresh exports skyrocketed to $167M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
