Price for Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Thailand (CIF) - 2023

The average import price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander stood at $2,069 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -12.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 54% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,860 per ton. From April 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($4,639 per ton), while the price for Bulgaria ($232 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for anise, badian, fennel and coriander amounted to $2,943 per ton, which is down by -35% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 29%. The export price peaked at $4,528 per ton in 2021, and then fell sharply in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($14,050 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($1,153 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Thailand recorded growth in purchases abroad of anise, badian, fennel and coriander, which increased by 18% to 5.3K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander imports shrank slightly to $12M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 25%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $12M, leveling off in the following year.

Exports of Anise, Badian, Fennel and Coriander in Thailand

In 2022, exports of anise, badian, fennel and coriander from Thailand soared to 80 tons, with an increase of 25% against 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 115 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, anise, badian, fennel and coriander exports declined notably to $235K in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 67% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $502K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
