Preserved Sardines Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022
The average preserved sardines export price stood at $2,587 per ton in March 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 an increase of 12% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,695 per ton. From August 2021 to March 2022, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In March 2022, the highest price was recorded for prices to Jordan ($2,920 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($2,857 per ton), while the average price for exports to Timor-Leste ($1,962 per ton) and Namibia ($2,048 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sardines Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022
The average preserved sardines import price stood at $1,829 per ton in 2022, reducing by -37.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 45% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $4,088 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($2,177 per ton), while the price for China amounted to $1,083 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Preserved Sardines Exports in Indonesia
For the fourth year in a row, Indonesia recorded growth in overseas shipments of sardines (prepared or preserved), which increased by 14% to 23K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +24.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, preserved sardines exports skyrocketed to $63M in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant expansion. Preserved Sardines Imports in Indonesia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of sardines (prepared or preserved) decreased by -2.5% to 427 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 438 tons, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, preserved sardines imports fell notably to $781K in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 91%.
