Preserved Sardines Price in Costa Rica (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average preserved sardines export price amounted to $2,205 per ton, shrinking by -4.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,489 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Nicaragua ($3,028 per ton), while the average price for exports to El Salvador ($1,997 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nicaragua (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sardines Price in Costa Rica (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average preserved sardines import price amounted to $2,714 per ton, waning by -2.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3,045 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($7,275 per ton), while the price for China ($1,592 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Preserved Sardines Exports in Costa Rica
In 2022, approx. 3K tons of sardines (prepared or preserved) were exported from Costa Rica; surging by 13% on the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 34%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 3.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, preserved sardines exports expanded rapidly to $6.5M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 36%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $7M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
