Plaster Price in Tanzania (CIF) - 2022

The average plaster import price stood at $211 per ton in December 2021, picking up by 5.5% against the previous month. Over the last eleven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2021 an increase of 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in December 2021.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($250 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($143 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plaster Price in Tanzania (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average plaster export price amounted to $378 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plaster export price increased by +81.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 31%. The export price peaked at $387 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malawi ($562 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($249 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Rwanda (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plaster Imports in Tanzania

In 2022, imports of plaster into Tanzania totaled 65K tons, approximately reflecting 2021 figures. Overall, total imports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -4.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 93%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 68K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plaster imports skyrocketed to $15M in 2022. In general, imports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 106%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
