Plantain Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023
The average plantain import price stood at $1,365 per ton in August 2023, flattening at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 47% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,394 per ton in June 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Slovakia ($1,374 per ton) and Romania ($1,362 per ton), while the price for Germany ($1,362 per ton) and Poland ($1,362 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+7.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plantain Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023
The average plantain export price stood at $1,607 per ton in August 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated perceptible growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, plantain export price decreased by -2.9% against June 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,654 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Slovenia ($1,607 per ton) and Poland ($1,607 per ton), while the average price for exports to Romania ($1,606 per ton) and Slovakia ($1,607 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
