Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
The average organo-sulphur compounds; methionine import price stood at $1,795 per ton in July 2023, approximately reflecting the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 1.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,879 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were China ($2,010 per ton) and Belgium ($1,840 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($1,500 per ton) and the United States ($1,508 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2022
The average organo-sulphur compounds; methionine export price stood at $3,377 per ton in 2022, growing by 4.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a sharp decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $55,707 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($3,348 per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay totaled $2,894 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Paraguay (-16.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Imports in Brazil
For the fourth year in a row, Brazil recorded growth in purchases abroad of organo-sulphur compounds; methionines, which increased by 9.5% to 78K tons in 2022. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 11% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, organo-sulphur compounds; methionine imports soared to $214M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
