Production By Country

Malaysia (5.3B units) remains the largest microphone producing country worldwide, comprising approx. 68% of total volume. Moreover, microphone production in Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Hong Kong SAR (1.7B units), threefold.

In Malaysia, microphone production expanded at an average annual rate of +25.2% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Hong Kong SAR (+5.7% per year) and China (-8.5% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Microphones And Their Stands

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of microphones and their stands, when their volume decreased by -20.1% to 2.6B units. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at 3.3B units in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, microphone imports shrank notably to $3.9B in 2022. In 2022, China (827M units), Hong Kong SAR (700M units) and Malaysia (662M units) was the largest importer of microphones and their stands in the world, making up 83% of total import. The following importers - India (84M units), the United States (60M units), South Korea (53M units) and Thailand (44M units) - together made up 9.2% of total imports.

In 2022, the average microphone import price amounted to $1.5 per unit, with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2.5 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, China ($1.6B) remains the largest microphone supplier worldwide, comprising 37% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($427M), with a 10% share of global exports.
