Menswear Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average menswear import price stood at $4.6 per unit in August 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 8.3% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5.6 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($6.6 per unit), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($1.6 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by El Salvador (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Menswear Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average menswear export price amounted to $4.2 per unit, picking up by 4.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 8.2% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $4.6 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($8.6 per unit), while the average price for exports to Honduras ($1.7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Menswear Imports in the United States
Menswear imports into the United States rose significantly to 8.8B units in 2022, growing by 9.4% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, menswear imports skyrocketed to $41.3B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +73.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
