Mate Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average mate export price amounted to $2,131 per ton, dropping by -3.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 4% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,240 per ton. From May 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($3,033 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($1,660 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Mate Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average mate import price amounted to $2,496 per ton, with a decrease of -6.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 124% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,980 per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($2,994 per ton), while the price for Paraguay amounted to $1,827 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+10.5%).
Mate Exports in Brazil
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of mate, when their volume decreased by -13% to 48K tons. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 37%.
In value terms, mate exports fell slightly to $96M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $98M, and then declined in the following year.
