Internal Combustion Engines Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average internal combustion engines import price amounted to $1,710 per unit, which is down by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, internal combustion engines import price increased by +32.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,884 per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,752 per unit), while the price for Japan ($575 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+13.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Internal Combustion Engines Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average internal combustion engines export price amounted to $1,255 per unit, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,384 per unit. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($2,346 per unit), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($408 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Internal Combustion Engines Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 50K units of motor vehicles compression-ignition internal combustion piston engines were imported into Malaysia; which is down by -3.7% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 74K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, internal combustion engines imports fell to $86M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $98M, and then fell in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The exports peaked at 12K units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, internal combustion engines exports totaled $11M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $16M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
