Graphite Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average graphite export price stood at $1,802 per ton in August 2023, which is down by -10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 35% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,076 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,182 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($970 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average graphite import price amounted to $1,946 per ton, with an increase of 6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 58%. The import price peaked at $3,660 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,472 per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($1,549 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Graphite Exports in Brazil
In 2022, approx. 18K tons of graphite (natural) were exported from Brazil; reducing by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, exports saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 20K tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, graphite exports reduced slightly to $29M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $30M, and then shrank in the following year.

Graphite Imports in Brazil
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of graphite (natural) increased by 127% to 2K tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt decrease.
In value terms, graphite imports soared to $4M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
