Glucose Price in Saudi Arabia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average glucose export price amounted to $524 per ton, reducing by -10.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $713 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Oman ($659 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($369 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sudan (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glucose Price in Saudi Arabia (CIF) - 2022
The average glucose import price stood at $784 per ton in 2022, dropping by -11.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, glucose import price increased by +60.3% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 24%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $889 per ton, and then declined in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($1,861 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($493 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Glucose Exports in Saudi Arabia
In 2022, shipments abroad of glucose and glucose syrup decreased by -17.8% to 34K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 102%.
In value terms, glucose exports fell rapidly to $18M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 113%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $24M, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Glucose Imports in Saudi Arabia
Glucose imports into Saudi Arabia skyrocketed to 5.6K tons in 2022, surging by 26% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment.
In value terms, glucose imports expanded markedly to $4.4M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $4.8M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
